Another SPA-cial Delivery!

I could not have been more excited to receive my very first professional facial!  It was with great anticipation that I left my house to head to the Midvale Sego Lily Day Spa.  I had never been to the Midvale location, but had heard many great things about it.  Even though it was a much longer drive for me, I was okay with it because I knew it would be every bit as luxurious as the Layton spa.

I’m just a wee bit excited for my very first facial!

Waterfall wall in Midvale Spa entry way

My expectations were not only met, but surpassed.   Once I saw the waterfall wall upon my entrance, I was hooked!  There is something about the sound and sight of water trickling down in a beautiful setting that is just so relaxing and comforting.  I would have been rejuvenated just by soaking that in all by itself.  But who wants to do THAT?  After all, I had a facial on the menu today!

Meditation room in Midvale Spa

This place was absolutely gorgeous and so beautifully decorated specifically to make you feel completely at home.  And as we all know, being at home is where we relax the best!  There were so many big comfy chairs and pillows and couches and places to sit, that there was no excuse to not find the spot that felt “just right”…ahh.  I tried out several different seats and my only regret is that I didn’t have more time to just sit and let the thoughts seep out as I lounged and meditated.  And to top it all off there was another wall of water!  Loved that!  The peaceful sounds of that wall took me away into a wonderful place with a tropical stream or a creek flowing peacefully down the mountain.  Serenity at it’s best!

img_5401

Waterfall wall in meditation room and PURPLE robe!

Now I know I am being a little prejudiced here, but I have to say the very best part of the Midvale location is the fact that they have PURPLE ROBES!!! Yes, purple!  Once I put that regal color on, I truly felt like royalty…like the pampered princess I was so hoping to be when I first entered this contest. That purple robe totally sealed the deal for me!  img_5400

I was liking this!

But wait! It gets even better! Inside the waiting/meditation room there was a table spread with a lot of very tempting (and healthy) treats! Fresh fruit, dried fruit mix, and even brownie bites!!! I am all for escaping reality, but I am sure glad there was chocolate in this dream! It wouldn’t really be an escape without chocolate.  And YES my friends…chocolate IS healthy. Did you know that dark chocolate has now been proven to erase fine lines and wrinkles?!  True story! And those scientists are not talking about rubbing it on the outside of your face like some cocoa scrub. Oh no, they are talking about ingesting it internally! What could be better?  Not only do you get the benefits of reducing wrinkles, but you also get to enjoy the taste while doing it!  Okay my spa peeps, there will no longer be any guilt allowed when indulging in nature’s most perfect food! Unless, of course you like wrinkles because it’s also been scientifically proven that guilt causes them!

img_5403

Indulging in healthy chocolate (calorie free!) flavored syrup for my water!

I also found this great little station that has a selection of healthy syrup to flavor your water. And guess what one of the flavors was? I’ll give you a hint. It’s healthy and has been proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.  Yep!  Chocolate again! Can you feel that guilt just evaporating away?!

Really, what more do I need?

Wow, could there be anything wrong with this picture?  Well, I’ll let you do the math.  Let’s see.  Waterfall walls, luxurious chairs, two huge fireplaces, soothing background music, healthy snacks (including chocolate brownie bites), chocolate flavored water, AND purple robes!!!  I was enjoying it all so much, I almost forgot I actually came to get a facial!

The facial I was to receive was called the Signature Facial.  Ashley, my aesthetician, came and got me from the waiting area and took me in to a room with dimmed lighting that smelled so glorious and had the most calming music playing softly in the background.  I immediately felt like I was on a vacation at some luxurious tropical resort. Before we even got started Ashley explained to me exactly what she would be doing and asked if I had any questions or concerns.  I did not and was good to go!

When I think of getting a facial, I think of only my face getting spoiled.  Not at Sego Lily.  My face wasn’t the only thing getting pampered.  My hands, feet, legs, neck, arms, and back got the royal treatment as well.   I have to say the hand massage is now on the top of my list for one of my new favorite things.  Ashley had the perfect touch as she rubbed some wonderful scented lotions on me and then massaged them deep into the pores of my hands.  I was astonished how wonderful a little hand massage can be.   The rest was just as fabulous but I left wanting even more of the hand massage.  I’ve tried doing it to myself at home since,  but it just isn’t the same as having a professional do it that knows exactly what pressure points to touch and how to knead the tension out.

The facial was beyond marvelous.  This was my first ever professional facial and I can tell you right now, it will NOT be my last.  Can we say addicted?  It was pampering at it’s finest.  Ashley used products on me that contained vitamins, anti-oxidants, plant driven proteins, and firming botanicals.  The smells were absolutely euphoric.  She gave me a play by play as she went along and made sure I understood each step along  the way.  My face was thoroughly cleaned then exfoliated.  She used a machine that produced hot steam to open my pores and release harmful chemicals in my skin.  The hot steam was actually very enjoyable.  I also loved the hot washcloths being placed on my face at various times that penetrated the heat into my pores.  But nothing compared to having the pressure points rubbed and kneaded on my face, neck, and shoulders with the spa’s scrumptiously scented lotions.  Ahh… complete bliss.  We took some photos of the treatment along the way, but they didn’t turn out unfortunately.  Ashley said my face looked really good and I didn’t need any extractions done.  Whew…  Or maybe that’s not good because now I’ll really be eating all that chocolate without guilt!

Once the facial was over I was feeling completely and totally relaxed.  My face felt absolutely amazing and softer than a baby’s tush!  The lotions hadn’t completely absorbed all the way and when Ashley handed me the mirror I could see a glow that would have lit up the midnight sky! As I lay on the table, I was soaking in the peaceful environment while letting my mind drift.  I knew the real world would be knocking on my door soon enough and so I was enjoying the tranquility while I could.

As I walked in the dressing room I took a look at the incredible Sauna and Steam room they offer at the Midvale Spa.  I was disappointed that I was pressed for time and so I was unable to enjoy either luxury!  Next time I will be sure and allow for plenty of time to try out both!  In the dressing room they also provide curling irons, flat irons, blow dryers, combs, brushes, make-up remover, hair spray, deodorant….pretty much anything you might need to look presentable once again.  As I got dressed and re-applied my make-up, I was still reeling in the aftermath of the whole experience.  So much so that I grabbed what I thought was hair spray and sprayed it throughout my hair.  It wasn’t until I noticed that it didn’t seem to be holding my hair in place, that I realized I had sprayed aerosol deodorant all over my hair!!!  Baby powder scent no less.  At least it went well with my baby soft skin!  I’m just glad I didn’t use the hair spray as deodorant!

Sego Lily has everything you will need to re-groom yourself. Just be sure and use the right product for the right need!

img_5405

DUMMIES NOTE: Read the labels of the products BEFORE you use them!

img_5413

I was feeling like one pampered princess!  What a great way to start the day, week, MONTH!  Ashley talked to me about the products she used on me during the treatment.  I fell in love with many of them.  Thankfully they sell them right there at Sego Lily. I was really sold on the Rhonda Allison line of anti-aging sunscreen and moisturizer.  The sunscreen has an SPF of 30 and the moisturizer also has sunscreen in it.  As one who spends a lot of time outdoors in the sun, I was excited to find a sunscreen that I can wear under my make-up without it feeling like it’s sweating off as soon as I put on my foundation.  I have been using it daily since the facial and I am very happy with both it and the moisturizer.

I was not thrilled however, with the idea that once I stepped out that door, reality would be waiting for me once again.  I know, I know…poor little pampered princess has to face the real world.  But, I was most grateful for the incredible temporary escape knowing that it would sustain my sanity for many days after!  Once again, Sego Lily saved the day, week, MONTH!  I realize now why they named it Sego Lily.  The Sego Lily roots kept the pioneers alive during a trying time.  And it’s keeping me alive (at least sane!) too with each and every treatment I receive!  I have no doubt it will do the same for you too!

Slow Down, You’re Going to Fast!

menu-body2I was so excited to have my first treatment as the Sego Lily Blogger that I fear I probably broke a few speeding laws to get there because I just couldn’t wait! I tried to envision myself getting pulled over for speeding and then asking the officer if he could please pose for a photo for my blog because it would add so much to the post. If that ever does happen, you can be rest assured that I will do that.

As I arrived (thankfully citation free), I rushed in the door at my usual rapid pace. But once inside the spa I felt like I had entered another realm and every part of me immediately soaked in the relaxing ambiance I was surrounded by. The peaceful atmosphere was like a magnet drawing all the hastening and hurrying out off my system. It was almost as if time stood still and I felt my mind and body slow down. I experienced an ahhh… moment. And that was even BEFORE the massage! Ahhhhhhhhh…

My body, mind, and soul were waiting with anticipation for some heavy duty pampering. On the menu for my first treatment was the Sego Lily Sampler 90 minute massage. It consists of a classic Swedish massage and my choice of reflexology, cranial sacral, or a rocky mountain stone massage. Now that sounded like a slice of heaven, or better yet, a slice of chocolate cake, (well… technically I guess that IS a slice of heaven, at least in my world). Surprisingly enough, I didn’t even think of chocolate once the whole time I was there. Now that is blog worthy… Who needs chocolate when you are getting something even better? Did I really say that?

Jeff was my massage therapist. I was told he has a reputation for getting many requests at the Layton spa where he works. I was ready to put him up to the test and see if he really deserved that reputation. I can honestly say, he more than passed the test. His experience and skill worked out so many kinks from my sore and knotimg_5324ted muscles (some I didn’t even know were muscles.) He searched and rescued them. No knot or kink escaped alive. He was so great to answer my questions and explain things to me. The massage was incredible! I was completely relaxed and not wanting it to ever end. The soothing and calming music in the background and the wonderful aromas of the lotions and oils took me away by themselves.

The description for this massage claims that long flowing strokes and kneading techniques will relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce stress. I would say this description is only fairly accurate. Only fairly because they left off the part that it will also make you completely oblivious to whiny children, spilled milk, piles of laundry, dirty dishes, and kid’s punching wars (at leasmassaget for several hours after), relieve your worry of what’s for dinner (that’s why they have carryout pizza), reduce your tendency to over react to the sound of firecrackers exploding in the backyard as you pull in the driveway, and improve your ability to tune out, “There’s nothing to eat around here”. After you just spent $200 at the grocery store. I think that would make it a bit more accurate.

After Jeff’s intensely wonderful massage, I was able to experience one of my new favorite luxuries. The Rocky Mountain Stone massage. Two words: It rocks! I have never felt anything so relaxing and so healing. I am a big fan of heat and the heat of those rocks penetrating deeply into my sore muscles was the most luxurious indescribable feeling. Oh wow! I wouldn’t have minded that part of the massage taking the full 90 minutes. It was the most comforting sensation….the silky smooth rocks, with the deep heat, all while working my tired muscles. Not a better combination to be found anywhere.

dscf6650

Next on the list was the Cranial Sacral. It sounds like something a witch doctor would prescribe, but do not be fooled.  It did have it’s own sense of magic however.  The tension and stress magically disappeared. Technically I was only supposed to get one of the three side choices, but Jeff wanted me to be able to experience a little taste of all three and so he shortened each one so I could. The cranial sacral was amazing! I had a headache as I arrived at the spa earlier, but after this awesome head and neck massage, it was no where to be found. I felt all the tension and stress just slowly slip away.

dscf6774

Last but not least, was the Reflexology massage. This is an Asian technique that applies pressure to the feet to stimulate reflex points that correspond to specific energy zones and organs of the body in order to restore balance and health. The feet! Oh yes! I am a huge fan of foot rubs. I will even pay my boys to give them to me because I love them so much (meaning the foot-rubs ~ I love my boys too, but they think I am torturing them when I ask for a foot rub!) They used to give them to me for free when they were younger and not as wise. Now, I have to take out a 2nd mortgage to get them to do it for me. Well, this one made up for it all. This was more than just a foot rub. It was more like a foot rub on steroids. I must have said, “Ahh…” more than 10 times during it. The wonderful aromas of the lotions once again made it all that much more enjoyable. I wanted it to last forever.

The entire experience was incredible.

There was one part of it that I was not particularly fond of however. That was when it was OVER and I had to return to REALITY. But even after that, I was welcome to stay and sit in the meditation room for as long as I wanted. Or take my time with a hot and steamy shower. Every single cell, nerve, and muscle in my body was in such slow motion by then, that if I had become any more relaxed, I’m afraid Sego Lily would’ve had to bury me.

I had finally slowed down.

My body, mind, and soul were thanking me for it and all three would be doing back handsprings if they weren’t so relaxed. Not even reality would be able to speed me back up to my normal pace. At least not immediately. I was so calm and serene, that there was no chance I was going to get pulled over for speeding on the way home. Possibly for going too slow… Okay, that’s never going to happen either. But, at least I was going the speed limit!

Thank you Sego Lily for slowing me down and pampering me up!

♥ Thank you! ♥

blog-winner-92-21

In a kingdom not too far away, there once was a girl…(okay a little older than a girl, but she was female!)

This girl had a blog.
Also in this kingdom there was a luxurious spa named Sego Lily Day Spa where the utmost in royal pampering treatments were given. A royal decree was heard throughout all the land that this spa was having a contest to select a royal blogger for their spa. The winner would become the most pampered princess in all of the kingdom!
The girl blogger was encouraged by her dear aunt to enter Sego Lily’s contest. The girl thought, “Why not? To be or not to be, that is the question.  And to be (the winner!)  is the answer!”
So the girl did enter the contest. The girl nearly tossed her royal cookies when the announcement came throughout the land that she was selected as one of the top five Sego Lily bloggers. This thrilled the girl! The girl worked wearily petitioning her fellow bloggers and friends to vote for her to become the new royal Sego Lily blogger. Her fellow bloggers and friends grew weary of the girl’s constant outcries begging for support. At times they wanted to toss her into the mote. But they never complained or let her down once. They supported her throughout the long and intense ordeal.
The girl knew the odds of her becoming the royal winner were slim because the other four damsels were some of the best bloggers in the land. But she still kept her hopes high. The girl was in constant wonderment about the big day when the royal winner would be announced.
Finally, one day the girl was asked to meet at the royal Sego Lily Day Spa for the much anticipated announcement of the lucky winner. She was told to brinblog-winner-63-17g her family and friends along as well. The girl was beyond excited to finally learn who would become the most pampered princess of all the kingdom. How she was hoping it would be her!
They all gathered at the royal Sego Lily palace with intense anticipation!

img_5033

The girl’s family and friends were all escorted into the back of the Sego Lily palace while she waited in the luxurious parlor to meet and talk with the fair damsel Jackie, who was to tell the girl which blogger was chosen as the winner. The girl was a bit surprised when no announcement was made and the beautiful damsel Jackie asked the girl to come hither to the back of the palace with her.
The girl curiously followed her to the back and as she opened a door to enter she was greeted very loudly with party horns, confetti flying, and excited screams of Congratulations!” by her royal family and frieimg_5038nds and the entire spa family!  A crown was placed upon her head and she was given the most beautiful bouquet of flowers she had ever seen! A scrumptious royal feast was also spread for all to enjoy.  There was much merriment in the palace.
She had won! She was to become the most pampered princess in all of the kingdom!
img_5043
The girl was in royal shock!
And continues to be to this day.  The only thing that will bring her out of it is a few massages and a lot of pampering.
Sego Lily to the rescue, once again, of a damsel in distress!
There you have it.  That’s the story…
Oh…and of course, she lived happily ever after!!!  Or at least happily for  ONE full year and 24 treatments after!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can someone pinch me! Or better yet, massage me! I still can’t believe this is happening! Is it really true???
What an honor! A true honor. I feel so humbled.  I must say each one of the other four finalists deserved this every bit as much as I did. If there was a way to share it, I gladly would! I am grateful we were able to do the TV segment in the beginning so I could meet them. Angie with her bright and warm smile. Amanda’s wit and clever poster. Heather who is just as sweet as she can be. Unfortunately Robin was unable to make it and so I didn’t get to meet her, but I love her blog. Each one is so gifted and talented, that I feel honored to just be in the top five with them. Thank you to each, for being so kind and gracious. You really are all amazing women.
Thank you to my incredible family and friends for your undying support!  I am so blessed to have such an amazing support system in my life!  I was blown away by how many of you went the extra mile to help me out.  You were there when I needed you most.  You were there when things were smooth sailing and more importantly when the seas got a little rough.  How can I ever re-pay you?  I know, I know, by taking you with me for each treatment!  Oh, how I wish I could!  Thank you all from the deepest part of my heart!  ♥
And a huge thank you to Sego Lily for your generosity and for how wonderful and memorable you made the celebration for me and my family and friends. Everything was done with such class and style, just like your spa. I was, and continue to be, overwhelmed by your generosity and support. I look forward to working with you and getting to know you all much better. I can’t thank you enough! But I will continue to try.
I hear the music playing… but one last THANK YOU TO ALL who helped me in any way!
Everything’s Better with Butter…
Life can be stressful.
Actually, let me rephrase that:  Life IS stressful.  Of course, I don’t need to tell you this, right?
Without making this a personal sob story, I can sum up life’s stress in a few words: work, work, errands, computers, commuting, cars, money, work… LIFE.  On top of that, throw in buying a house, and you get the picture.  But for those of you who are visuals learners, here is a picture that says at least a thousand words on the matter:
Robin's Image 3
(I'm scary... I know.)
Yes, my friends, life is stressful.
So how do you combat these difficult times?  Before you can conquer anything, you need to know what enemy you are dealing with.  Luckily, I have a fairly solid understanding on the nature of stress, being the un-scientifically-minded-albeit-lover-of-all-things-made-up-to-sound-scientific person that I am.
You see, very few people realize that stress is a tiny monster-like organism, known in the scientific world as the species Stressiculonimbus Ickyonoid, that seeps into our body to attack both the nervous and muscular system.
Robin's Image 2
In other words, stress is a dual-layer of “ickiness” (totally a word).  It is this ickiness that makes us want to stay in bed and continue our dreams of hooking up with Hollywood heartthrobs.  It is this ickiness that forces us to eat the entire carton of ice cream.  Indeed, it is this ickiness that makes us believe that walking around make-up-less all day in our sweats will somehow (magically) make the stress go away.  But none of those things will destroy this ferocious monster.
Sad, huh?
Because of this complex enemy, stress must be addressed through a whole body and mind mission.  Luckily, there is a solution.  And it’s a deliciously wonderful solution at that.
Enter: Sego Lily Mind Body Spa.
If you’ve never been to a Sego Lily spa, you’ve probably considered stress a monster that cannot be tamed.  I know because that was me until just recently.  Upon finding out that I was one of the five finalists for the Sego Lily Blogger Contest (hooray!) I was given a power I was unfamiliar with:
The power of “… aaaahhhh”.
As I walked into the Midvale Sego Lily location, I was immediately taken back by the welcoming air of rejuvenation, calmness, and relaxation. This was the place to regain my presence of body and mind.  I was in awe, inspired even, by the treat-you-like-royalty changing rooms (featuring steam room, showers, and the softest robe ever) and the peaceful meditation room with dazzling water walls, a soul-warming fire place, and extra little touches (water, nuts, fruit, lotions).  This place made me feel like one in a million.
waiting-room-fireplace
The meditation room--perfect for reading, napping, or contemplating the meaning of life.
womens-dressing-room
Just a small glance at the spacious changing room.
My mind and body were able to let go of my never-ending to-do list and simply be.  Just be.
Within that joyous state of simply “being” I sensed a most welcome fear.  Not my fear, of course.  No.  It was the fear of the monster inside of me.  My stress monster (let’s call him George, okay?) was shaking in his little monster boots.  George knew he was toast.
This is the story of how George died.
Today’s weapon of choice:
The Body Butter Drench.
Who doesn’t like butter?  I mean, let’s be honest, butter makes everything better.  Period.  And there’s no doubt that the Sego Lily Body Butter Drench was the exact solution I needed to take down my final stress monster.
It went something like this:
I was sitting in an engulfing arm chair (can you say “comfy?”), sipping some water, when Courtney came in.  Courtney = greatness.  She led me to a quiet room where I received the best massage of my life.  She was knowledgeable, intuitive, and friendly.
dscf6650
The massage: It really is as good as it looks!!!
And then there was the body butter.  It’s an amazing, thick, moisturizer (that smells awesome) with the consistency of butter that is smothered onto my tired muscles.  After the massage, I was wrapped in warm blankets where the butter literally seeped into my pores, killing poor little George (goodbye stress monster!), and giving new life to my whole being.
I left feeling soft, supple, free, and happy.   (aaaahhhhh…)
The staff was amazing.  Their personal attention made me feel like their only customer.  You could not erase the smile on my face.
The worse part of the whole experience is that it had to end.  A few days later I tried to recreate the experience, with no luck (but a whole lot of mess).
Robin's Image
Kids, don't try this at home.
Clearly, I am not the expert here.  Luckily, the folks at Sego Lily know what they are doing.  When was the last time you spoiled yourself?  I say, it is time to do so now!
And now for the begging:
I’m on my hands on knees here.  I dream of a future with many more Sego Lily experiences, and hope that you (yes, YOU, my dear reader!) can help me live this joy for the next year.  All you need to do is leave a comment with an affirmative nod my way.  A vote for Robin is a vote against stress monsters.  In other words: a vote for Robin is a vote to save the world.  Sounds pretty good to me, don’t you think?
Thank you, Sego Lily!!!!
Wrap Me Up In Butter and Call Me Good!
Thursday, May 29th, is one of my new favorite days.  It will be a day that I will celebrate forever– along with birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays.  This day will be celebrated as one of the BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!!! This day will be celebrated as the day butter changed my life!
Yep, you heard me!  Butter changed my life.
Body Butter, to be exact.
Yummy Body Butter that smells like Key Lime Pie.
Yes, From this day forward, Thursday May 29th, will be known as “THE best day of my life!”  (Well, along with my Wedding day and the births of my children, but you know, you HAVE to say that!) Because that was the day I got my Body Butter Drench from The Sego Lily Day Spa.
Now I must admit, I haven’t had many Spa experiences.  I’ve always thought of them as “luxuries” and never made the time, or saved the money, to go in and get one.  You know how it is when you are a Mom and a Wife, you get in the zone, the “I-don’t-have-time-to-shower-let-alone-anything-fun!” zone.
Your day turns into feeding the kids, driving the kids, refereeing the kids, getting fruit snacks, playing with kids, doing laundry, more refereeing, more laundry, cleaning, cooking, more cleaning, more refereeing, helping with homework, more laundry and the The Hubby gets home and it starts all over again. You dream all day long of a break, but you know that will only happen when you get to make a quick run to the grocery stwaiting-room-fireplaceore, ….. without the kids, …..to pick up Toilet Paper!
This is where Sego Lily Day Spa comes in.  And let me tell you, for those of you like me, you feel like you just don’t have the time or the money for such a luxury,but let me tell you, YOU DO!!!  Because here is a secret,  …………..it’s not really a luxury.
Let me explain.  Food, water, and shelter are the basic necessities. .. . .  AND Sego Lily Day Spa!
I’m a HUGE believer in the phrase “happy wife=happy life!” From the time I first made my appointment, I  was happy!  I had something to look forward to!  Something to make listening to the kids fight a bit easier, to make potty training a bit more pleasant, to make laundry a bit less “never-ending!”  Knowing I had a Spa treatment made life SO MUCH BETTER!  And don’t we all need that!?!
womens-dressing-roomI arrived at the Layton location and let me tell you, GORGEOUS!! I was trying to take mental pictures of everything because I want to re-do my master bedroom and bath to be JUST like this place.  I mean the chandelier in the dressing room was amazing.  If I had brought my bigger purse I would have tried to take it home with me!   I took a tour of this place and it was magical.  You HAVE to check out the couples massage room with the bathtub!  Ya, you know what I will be giving  The Hubby for Father’s Day, it’s a present for me too!  YEAH!
I instantly felt at peace, sitting in my bathrobe and slippers in their sitting area.  I mean how could you not?!! There was a waterfall, fresh fruit, dried fruit, mood music, leather chairs, throw pillows, throw blankets, and wall sconces, – o my!  I was already so relaxed and I hadn’t even started my treatment yet!
The massage was A-MAY-ZING!! Ahhhhhh…….just thinking of it now takes me to my happy place! massage
My new best friend, Angela – the massage therapist, was such a joy.  In fact all the gals down there were!  No one yelled at me, no one asked me for fruit snacks, there was no tattling on one another, and definitely no asking “do you need to go number 1 or number 2?”   It was like something I’ve only ever dreamed about.
As I was getting my massage I was pretty sure that I was THE luckiest girl in the world to be pampered in such a way.  And then Angela started showing me that I had a bit of stress in my body and was pointing out some knots in my muscles.  She explained why our muscles do certain things, and how standing one way can effect something that you would never think about.  This gal was a fountain of knowledge!  I LOVED the massage, but I think my favorite part was when she wrapped me up like a warm burrito to let all my toxins escape.  SO WONDERFUL!!  She even took the time after my massage to show me some stretches I could do to keep my shoulders and neck from knotting up and maybe help me out with my headaches!
WOW!!!  I thought I was going in just to be pampered, but I came out of there CONVINCED that this was so much more than that.  That getting “pampered” is vital for my well-being.  I learned so much that night.   I learned that I need these treatments more than I want them( and I want them A LOT!) and the best part of this whole experience was my massage therapist  LOVES her job and I could tell just by talking with her.  That speaks volumes about Sego Lily to me!  To me it means that they have the same philosophy as me, …….only a little different.  Happy therapists=happy, happy, happy clients!
After my treatment I was driving home and seriously ALL of my favorite songs were on the radio.  I walked in my front door to my house and The Hubby and the kids put all the laundry away, AND did the dishes, AND there was chocolate pie to eat!!!  It was a sign from Heaven that I NEEDED this Spa Treatment.  It was like everything was made right in the world.  Life seemed easier, life seemed happier!  In fact, I took some before and after pictures to post on this blog and when I went to upload them to my computer my card reader corrupted all my pictures!  Like 1400 of them.  I had a wedding shoot, a newborn shoot and a family shoot all on that card and they are destroyed!  Normally this would have sent me into a crazy rage and I would have ended up on the 10 o’clock news, but I’m still giddy over my massage!   Now I can’t guarantee that this will happen with you, but isn’t it worth going just to find out!?!  I think so too!!!
So there you have it!  Basically you NEED to go to Sego Lily Day Spa.  And you NEED to vote for me to be the Sego Lily blogger.  Good luck to the other four finalists………but not all the luck, afterall, I really want/NEED to win!
Butter Me Up
I, Angie Lucas, have had many massages in my day, but I can state unequivocally that May 27 was the first time I’ve ever dozed off on the massage table. Blame it on Janice and the body butter.
Does anyone remember the Seinfeld episode (season 9, episode 1) when Kramer decides to replace his shaving cream with butter because it gives him a smoother shave? He loves how it feels so much that he spreads the butter all over his body and inadvertently starts baking himself in the sun, causing Newman to crave some tender, juicy Kramer turkey? Well my Body Butter Drench experience at the Sego Lily Spa was nothing like that at all.
For one thing, this body butter may have the same consistency as real butter, but it has never had anything to do with a cow. Also, a licensed professional is doing the spreading, throwing in a glorious massage for good measure. And the heat source involved in the treatment is decidedly non-solar and, as such, is guaranteed not to cause tanning, freckling, premature aging, crispy turkey skin, or any number of sun-induced blights. And Kramer will be the absolute furthest thing from your mind, so I’m not even sure why I brought it up.
I’ve long fantasized about what it would feel like to immerse my body into a bathtub filled with cool, whipped (but not melted) butter. Or to swim in a pool full of Jello in its swirly in-between state—not pure liquid, and not quite set. Well, until I’m independently wealthy, neither of these scenarios is likely to take place. But the Body Butter Drench will do quite nicely in the meantime.
Here’s How it Works
You’ll walk through the Sego Lily Spa doors (running late as usual and feeling overwhelmed by a never-ending list of tasks flowing through your head) and enter a blissful oasis. The rooms are cool and darkened. Everyone speaks in hushed voices and they smile kindly when they see you. You’ll be issued a luxurious purple robe and a pair of soothing spa sandals in just your size, and you’ll be encouraged to relax by a crackling fire—partaking of chilled lemon water, assorted teas, and dried fruit mix—until you are summoned for your treatment. You’ll be amazed you’ve never encountered dried kiwi before this day, and you’ll plan on making it a part of your daily diet for the foreseeable future.
relaxing
At just the right time, Janice [or insert your massage therapist’s name here] will walk in and call you by name. At this point, you can send your brain on vacation, because Janice is in charge of your every move for the next 90 minutes. She’ll tell you to slip beneath the towel on the massage table, and then she’ll start massaging the lightly scented tropical butter into your right foot and up your calf. All capacity for coherent thought will depart immediately. Janice will soon become just a pair of hands, as far as you’re concerned. She won’t speak more than necessary (no grilling you about where you’re from and what you do for a living and do you know so-and-so from Green River?), and when she does speak, her voice will be almost tranquilizing.
Janice will proceed to drench you in butter, one body part at a time, and your skin will drink it in thirstily as though it lives in a dry, desert climate—which it does. Then she’ll wrap you in a cocoon of what feels like wax paper—preserving your modesty all the while—followed by a heavy heat blanket that straps tightly closed. You’re a human butter burrito, and you feel warm and secure and moisturized. (I think this is the point at which I briefly drifted off to sleep.)
dscf6650
While the heat from the blanket opens your pores and encourages the butter to sink deep into your epidermis, Janice will work her magic on your head, shoulders, and face. She’ll then slowly unwrap you—again preserving your modesty—and quietly tell you exactly which appendage to move and when. She’ll even assist you in sitting up so you don’t have to engage your abdominal muscles. That’s what I call service. While you’re emerging from your cocoon (don’t worry, there are no butterfly metaphors on the way), you’ll have a moment of panic because you’re not ready for this to be over. But you can let that go because Janice still has a full-body massage in store for you. Twenty minutes of bliss ensues.
And then, at just the right time, Janice will softly bring you out of your butter-induced coma, issue departing instructions, and say sincerely, “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day.” And you’ll think that was just the nicest thing in the world. You’ll stammer back, “You’re welcome” with a dazed, open-mouth grin on your face, because your brain hasn’t quite booted back up again and you honestly think that’s an appropriate response. (If your brain were fully engaged, you’d say, “No, it is I who should thank YOU, kind madam.” And then as a token of your appreciation,  you’d gladly offer up your first-born child, or perhaps your second—whomever is better behaved.)
And, if you’re a scrapbooker, you’ll probably take a few surreptitious pictures on your iPhone while you’re there, and you’ll go home and turn them into a layout. After all, you’ll realize, we document the most exciting, memorable, and celebratory moments of our lives, so why shouldn’t we scrapbook our most relaxing moments, too?
INSIDER TIPS FOR FUTURE BODY BUTTER DRENCHEES
1. Say YES to the Stomach
Janice [or insert your massage therapist’s name here] will ask you if you’d like your stomach massaged. You might be tempted to say no, but I beg you to resist that urge. I’ve never had anything resembling washboard abs, and I can honestly say that in my adult life, only a tiny handful of people have ever laid eyes (let alone hands) on my bare midsection. It is truly my least favorite feature. I know many of you, particularly those who have previously given birth, can relate to feelings of self-consciousness about your abdominal region. But a beautiful thing happens when you say yes to having your stomach massaged. Not only is it surprisingly soothing and relaxing physically, you also get the subtle feeling that this pair of hands is offering you acceptance. You’re okay just as you are, and it feels good.
2. Avail Yourself of the Restroom Facilities Prior to Treatment
The Body Butter Drench lasts 90 wonderful minutes, and massages can have a tendency to kick certain people’s bladders into high gear. As long as you tinkle right before your treatment, you’ll make it through just fine. Also take care to drink no more than your normal amount before the Drench, then load up on all the fluids you want after it’s over.
3. Shower Before Your Drench but NOT After
Plan on squeezing in your daily workout and taking your daily shower prior to your treatment. Trust me, you will not want to wash off (or sweat off) the body butter that has been so painstakingly applied. You’ll want to luxuriate in your coccoon of moisturizing goodness as long as possible.
4. Plan on a Ponytail Day or a Hat Day
There’s a chance that some residual butter will make its way into your hair. If you have dry hair, this can be a nice side benefit. If you have a tendency toward oily hair (like moi), plan on washing your hair only (perhaps in the sink so you don’t violate tip 3) after the treatment is over, throwing it into a ponytail, or covering it up with a hat. This is especially helpful if you have somewhere important to be later that day, and you’d rather not show up glowing like a newlywed and smelling fantastic but looking like you haven’t washed your hair in the recent past.
5. Wear Socks and Shoes To and From Your Treatment
This tip is optional of course, but I found myself wishing I had brought comfy socks and real shoes to wear home. I didn’t want to slip my glistening feet into my dusty flip flops for the drive home.
And that’s it for me. Please tune back in as I (hopefully) begin my year-long journey through every treatment in the Sego Lily Spa menu, sharing my experiences and offering useful tips along the way. To help make sure this happens, please leave a comment right here on this post.
Have a blissful, relaxing day.
Burdens Banished by Butter!
It’s a tough job but somebody had to do it.img_44461
As a finalist in the Sego Lily Day Spa search for their blogger contest, I excitedly set up an appointment for my complimentary spa treatment that I would happily get to blog about as my final entry.
The very kind woman on the phone informed me my treatment was to be a Body Butter Drench that was 90 minutes in length! 90 minutes???  That’s an hour and a half!  That’s three episodes of Sponge Bob!  30 minutes short of two hours!  Now, I am not sure about you, but I wasn’t sure my body could handle being drenched in rich and luxurious butter for even a few minutes let alone 90! I had visions of my dry and cracking body going into shock from lack of exposure to this kind of luxury. Maybe I needed to start slow, with say… a Body Margarine Sprinkle first?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a member of some anti-butter cult. No, no…not me. I frequently drench many things in butter (i.e….fresh popcorn, hot rolls, steamy baked potatoes, crisp corn on the cob), after which I put them inside my body. It’s just I have never actually placed any kind of saturated fat outside of my body. Nope…never EVER drenched my body in butter. Or margarine for that matter.
I immediately went to Sego Lily’s website to read the full description of this fascinating treatment and learned they don’t offer a Body Margarine Sprinkle on the menu (probably because then everyone would be thinking, “I can’t believe it’s not butter!”) but it did say that part of the treatment includes a full body massage! Massage too? Okay I am in!!!  The deal is sealed! (Or drenched or spread or whatever!)
Bring on the butta baby!
Now for someone that has only had ONE massage in her entire life, (belly massages from wanna-be drill sergeant nurses two hours after giving birth – five different times – DO NOT COUNT!) the word excitement just doesn’t cut it! I was in a state of extreme intense anticipation!
The timing couldn’t have been better. Between the time I scheduled my appointment and the time it rolled around, I had been literally drenched (even smothered!) to my eyeballs in – no not butter – but STRESS!!! It goes without saying I was more than ready to see if my first visit would fulfill Sego Lily’s claim to renew my mind, body, AND spirit.
If there was anyone to give it the test that day, it was ME! But I admit I was somewhat skeptical considering NO chocolate was involved in the process.  Not even cocoa butter!jodi15
As I entered the spa weighed down with my heavy load of burdens, I was greeted by my wonderful masseuse, Nichole, who reached out and cheerfully took them from me.
I more than willingly handed them over to her, fully intending to retrieve them once again upon my departure.
img_4470
Upon my arrival inside the spa, the beautiful and peaceful surroundings made me quickly forget all about that bag of burdens that I entered with.  I was warmly welcomed by the Sego Lily staff and shown around by Nichole. What an escape I was feeling already! I felt I had entered into a new realm for a time. Aaaaaah…….
The exhilarating aromas (aromatherapy at it’s finest!) and the tranquil ambiance quickly took their affect.
As the mother of five boys, I was not used to this.  I am usually surrounded by loud noises, rambunctious wrestling, fermenting dirty socks, smelly gym shoes, sweaty uniforms, and many other unknown fragrances, that truth be told, I prefer NOT to know what they are OR where they came from!  Ignorance IS bliss when living with boys.
No nasty aromas at Sego Lily. Not a one. Just the intoxicating scent of lavender and mint and eucalyptus permeating everywhere. It was worth walking inside just to give my olfactory receptors a thrill.
jodi13
I was led to the locker room, which trust me folks is unlike ANY locker room this mother of all boys has ever seen (not that I frequent male locker rooms or anything!). Inside my personal locker was a luxuriously soft and comfortable robe! Once that baby went on, I felt like I had just been crowned Queen and was ready to be spoiled.  Nichole motioned for me to follow her, which I eagerly did, when suddenly these words flew out of my mouth:
Yes, my lady, I come hither.  Wither thou goest I will go, for I am in much need of a frolicking pamper fest consisting of being drencheth in butter.  I do fear madness will befall me if I don’t receive it heretofore!”
Wow!  That royal feeling seeped inside quick!
img_44441
Even before I was inside my room, I was completely relaxed. The calming music softly playing in the background along with the serene sound of water flowing and dimmed lights made it impossible not to be. I was ready to be royally buttered pampered!
I was not disappointed. The butter cream was so luxuriating and so intensely wonderful that I swear my body just slurped it up on the spot! Honey Dew Body Butter…mmm… Honey do more! Please! Never stop!”, was consuming my thoughts! The combination of that and the massage…OH THE MASSAGE! I thought I had died and gone to saturated fats heaven!
Nichole’s magic hands and fingers found all the right places my stress was hiding. Against every instinct in my core, I fell into an almost vegetative oil state. I wasn’t asleep… heck I’m not that relaxed when I’m snoozing.  But I wasn’t quite with it either.
After being lavishly drenched in butter I was wrapped up in a plastic cocoon basting blissfully while given the most incredible neck massage known to woman!  I emerged from my cocoon – not a butterfly – but a royal Queen Bee!
img_44471
img_44481
Now I can NOT believe I am about to say this, BUT… this experience was even BETTER than chocolate! I know, I know….that sounds like blasphemy especially coming from me – the founder of Chocoholics Un-anonymous. But this truly surpassed any chocolate experience even I’ve ever known. Yes, better than any chocolate morsel that has ever passed through my lips en route to my hips, and yet this was 100% calorie free! Whoever heard of drenching anything with butter without inducing severe guilt laden calories?
Hmm…I wonder if they’ve considered doing a Cocoa Butter Drench too?
   img_4451
This healthy indulgence did more than fully RENEW my mind, body, and spirit!  It soothed my soul, strengthened my body, and clarified my mind, just as promised.  I was a new woman as I departed!  My experience at Sego Lily lived up to it’s claim and definitely quenched my body’s thirst for serenity in this chaotic world!  My bag of burdens remained behind.  An enormous weight was lifted!
As I flitted lightly out the door of that tranquil world inside Sego Lily, I felt completely ready to take on the world again… and with a new crown to boot!  After all that pampering and drenching in butter, I felt like royalty, a real Dairy Queen!
Do whatever you want with my bag of burdens Nichole.  Maybe you should drench it in butter too!
Do whatever you want with my bag of burdens Nichole. Maybe you should drench it in butter too!
They have everything you need to tame your WILD LOCKS after a day of spa frolicking!
img_44781
They even sell the yummy butter so you can drench yourself in it at home when your skin gets thirsty! Sorry, they don't sell massages in a can!
img_44742
Fare thee well my Sego Lily lady! Parting is such sweet sorrow! But 'tis not so when parting with heavy burdens! I thank thee for thou hast taketh them far away!
Not trying to butter you up nope!  BUT if you are in need of a vacay from your stress and burdens then allow Sego Lily to do the buttering up! They are really good at it!!!  As always the proof is in the pudding butter!!!
Turns Out Trans Fats Feel as Good as They Taste
“Body butter, drenching.”
“Body butter, drenching.”
“Body butter, dren – oops, there’s my exit!”
If ever there was a morning I needed a good buttering and drenching, today was it.  I had left a husband making crêpes in my just-cleaned kitchen, my floors had sticky puddles on top of the sticky puddles that needed cleaning last week, and my laundry piles had physically eaten my laundry room.  Engulfed.  Digested.  Gone. Burp. I was headed for ninety minutes of being slathered in something akin to butter, being wrapped in plastic and blankets until it absorbed, then I would be massaged until I was unconscious.  (Maybe I added that last part)  To say I was excited is to say the sea is wet; there may have been actual skipping as I got out of my car in the parking lot.
The Sego Lily Mind Body Spa isn’t just pretty; it’s a knockout.  The Palladio colors and architecture are reminiscent of something you’d stumble across in an Italian countryside, were you lucky enough to stumble across a wellness spa as you hoofed it through the Italian countryside.  This isn’t a strip mall spa; there are no cheesy posters on the wall, no sixteen year-olds getting their hair blown out for prom in the front room, no smell of nail polish remover wafting or fluorescent lighting overhead.  From the moment you walk through the heavy wrought iron doors, you get the message: This is an escape.
womens-dressing-room
After I checked in and was shown to the changing room, I was given my eggplant chenille-lined robe and spa slippers and instructed to change and wait for my therapist in the relaxation room.  I couldn’t get there as fast as planned – the changing room alone could’ve held my interest for twenty minutes.  Spa quality face lotions and rinses, complimentary Q-tips, hair elastics, razors, deodorant, hairspray; that was just the stuff by the sink!  There were showers, a steam room, a sauna – you name it.  Had I somewhere to go other than home to my laundry room’s skeletal remains, I would’ve been set.  Then, the relaxation room:  They aren’t kidding; I was tempted to ditch the treatment and see how long I could go unnoticed on the huge, overstuffed couches.  Low light, an assortment of herbal teas, hot chocolate, mints, fresh fruit and – get this – a melody of dried fruit on which I could drizzle dark chocolate syrup infused with antioxidants!  Stop it, Sego Lily.  You’re messing with my reality.
waiting-room
After a few relaxing minutes and ample snooping, Kaylie appeared in her all-black attire and I mean business apron and greeted and escorted me to my room.  So it began.  This wasn’t my first rodeo, if you get my drift, so I assured Kaylie, as she walked me through the process, that this body had seen ample time inside a spa.  How wrong I was – there are treatments, and then there are treeeeeeaaatments. Kaylie rubbed me in something that was literally the texture and consistency of butter, except it smelled like lime verbena and the aroma combined with the warmth of the room made me feel like I was lying on a beach somewhere, sun drenched to my toes.  And did I mention the table was warmed?  Warmed!  The gentle heat radiated up from my underside and wrapped around me like a blanket – oh wait, that was the actual blanket Kaylie wrapped me in when she was through slathering; a cozy cocoon so snugly and moist I felt akin to a baked potato in foil, sizzling away on the oven’s top rack.  While I marinated, Kaylie covered my eyes in an herbal  mask (Yum, lavender.  And again with the warming!) and massaged my neck and shoulders; there was contact with pressure points, pulling and maneuvering, and I was a limp noodle.  Once I was peeled from my toasty shell, the massage began.
water-wall
I’d like to give you intimate details of the massage but it was a complete out of body experience and might’ve lasted minutes or days – couldn’t tell you.  I was so relaxed, somewhere betwixt and between being asleep, that I only remember being rubbed and touched so wonderfully I felt completely at peace.  And I forgot the dishes.  And I forgot the laundry.  I forgot the constant list that I write in my head every waking moment.  And I just was. Ninety minutes from the start we were through.  Kaylie was the quintessential massage therapist; speaking only enough to make me feel connected though never requiring constant dialogue.  She was firm and confident and though she probably tips the scales at 90 pounds, she worked all 5’11’’ of me like putty in her hands.  Once I pulled myself together and headed out the door, I let out a long sigh and reminded myself why every mother, nay every woman, deserves time to herself to indulge in something that makes her feel energized.  Women deplete their stores on a daily basis; Sego Lily wipes the slate clean, if for only ninety minutes, so that we can take off our robes, suit back up and face the world again; or at the very least, the laundry piles.  Woman, get thee to Sego Lily.
Announcing the Finalists!
Congratulations to the Five Finalists!
First off, we want to thank ALL of the wonderful bloggers that entered.  We could only select five but way more than five of you won our hearts and smiles with your fabulous entries.  Thanks so much!
After an INTENSE selection process we are very excited to announce the five finalists in the Search for the Sego Lily Blogger!  And without further delay, here are your five finalists!
Robin Konie – link
How the Judging Process Worked?
Narrowing down so many great entries required a bit more time and brainstorming than we originally anticipated. Here are some details on the selection process we used.
To select these finalists we assembled all of the entries and distributed them to our five-person management team at Sego Lily.  Each person on the team could nominate any entry as a “semi-finalist” which gave us a list of 14 of our favorite entries.
From that list each Sego Lily Manager was asked to rank them in order, 1 being their favorite and 14 being their least favorite.  These five scores were averaged together giving each blogger a final score.  The top five scores were selected as finalists
The voting was EXTREMELY close, there was a .75 point difference between 6th and 5th place. Everyone that entered should be very proud of the wonderful work and we hope to see you next year when the contest begins again!
What Happens Next?
All of our finalists have been contacted by phone and have a treatment scheduled, once the treatments are finished they will all have an opportunity to write a post on this, the OFFICIAL Sego Lily Blog about their experience and then the public will help us choose by voting (using the comment section of each blog post) for their favorite.
The top vote getters will be ranked in order and this number will be averaged with a separate ranking by the Sego Lily Management team.  The blogger with the top average score will win the title of Sego Lily Blogger and the dream year will begin.
That Won’t Be the End!
